For extra-crispy scrapple, lightly dredge both sides of each slice with flour before frying and keep a close eye on the pan to prevent burning. Make sure your scrapple isn't too thick or thin (3/4-inch slices should do the trick) and work with a hot, well-greased skillet or the scrapple may crumble or fall apart. Experiment with different cuts and see what you enjoy most.įrying scrapple is a simple pleasure, and seeing that beautiful crunchy crust on the underside when flipping a slice is true satisfaction. Pork butt, ribs, hocks, shanks, and bulk sausage all work well and will contribute a variety of flavors and textures. Scrapple broth-what remains after simmering the meat-can be frozen and used to make scrapple with whatever leftover pork you have on-hand. One taste of this tender, sausage-y, flavor-packed pâté fried crisp and golden will have you wondering why it took so long to catch on. What was once largely a by-product-primarily a way to use up whole animal parts like heads, trotters, and tails-has become a delicacy. It’s been enjoyed in the region ever since, and Pennsylvania Dutch producers ship it to chefs around the country who have been incorporating this humble ingredient made of scraps into their menus. Scrapple has roots in Germany, and arrived in Pennsylvania with a wave of German settlers during the 17th and 18th centuries. It's a delicious, crispy-on-the-outside, creamy-on-the-inside breakfast meat to accompany your toast and eggs. At its core, scrapple is a dish of pork meat mixed with spices, broth, and cornmeal that is placed in a mold and served sliced and fried. Scrapple, as you may gather from its name, was created as way to use leftover pig parts, commonly referred to as offal.

![]() So, when Chris needed to put a small team together to investigate what would become Privateer, I was either the perfect choice or the one guy he could do without on Strike Commander. I got to start designing on Wing Commander I and II, making missions and AI scripts, and then had the same role on Strike Commander. Joel: My path was pretty straight-forward, really. So how did you go from QA work through to being Lead Designer on Privateer ? As part of that, please describe how the idea for Privateer came about in the first place. I wish I had gotten to work more on the Ultimas, but I was firmly on the Wing Commander side of Origin for most of my time there, and I didn't mind that at all. And, of course, it all had to respond to where you were in the story. Richard was big on making sure the NPCs actually lead proper lives, such as fetching water in the morning before baking bread to sell in their shops. Joel: Let’s see – I think 6 was QA? Or was that 5? Both? By the time 7 was in development I did some design grunt work on villager routines. What an awesome break! I see you also did some work on Ultima - care to mention what that was? It was Wing Commander, but not as we knew it. Most importantly, it got me in the door, and I was there when they needed folks for some entry-level design work. That summer I got to QA Space Rogue (yes, that was such a cool game… shout-out to Paul Neurath, one of the all-time greats in this industry), plus a half-dozen others. Maybe Amiga? Commodore? I don’t remember. I played Ultima 3 forever, and loved it, and was playing a game called Times of Lore, which Origin had published for Chris Roberts, who I knew slightly as my parents and his know each other, so I got a gig QA-ing it on one of the smaller platforms. Please start off by describing how did you get started at Origin - I see you worked on another of my absolute favorite games: Space Rogue ? Join me as I talk to Privateer’s Lead Designer, Joel Manners, on the making of this classic title. Privateer brought Elite-style freeform exploration and adventure to a new part of a familiar universe, and gamers the world over were instantly hooked as they made their way through Gemini Sector, seeking fortune and uncovering secrets. Wing Commander: Privateer ships converted to Space.Back in 1993, Origin Systems released a space combat and trading game set in its highly successful Wing Commander universe.Atlantis - Electra Character Reference. The ships are beautiful and should provide better options for use in game. Using the Vehicle Manual, players should be able to customize their ships how they want on the space port. The Orion is preferred by humans and Valiesians, while the Galaxy ships are preferred by Xatosians and Kagoth. The Centurion are preferred by human and Tulgar mercenaries. The Centurion was built by humans, the Orion was built by the Valusians, the Galaxy by the Kagoths, and the Tarsus by the Oorts. To use these ships in SM:P, realize that they are built for the Civilian market. The other ships (Demon, Talon, Drayman, Paradigm, and Kamekh, et al.) need customized stats and will follow. Obviously, these ships are the Player owned ships in the game. * Two Missile Launchers, 20 MK 10 Dumb Fire missiles Translight Capability: Level 1 Quantum Drive Top Speed: 11.5 Gs loaded, 14 Gs Afterburn The Tarsus used to be the mainstay of the Exploratory Services fleet, and is now popular among the general public.Ĭargo: 100 Metric tons, 150 with Cargo Expansion * 1 Missile Launcher, 10 Image Recognition Missles (MK 20) NoneĪrmament: (2 Hard Points, 1 Strong Point) Level 1 Quantum DriveĪtmospheric Capability. This ship is fast, maneuverable and can pack some serious fire power. The Centurion is the most powerful heavy fighter you can purchase. This alone is a valid argument for those seeking the best performance without all the technical issues that SLI induces to buy a Titan X. Some things I would like to make note of based upon the information and data provided within your Titan X review, other reviews I have read thus far, and my current PC hardware configuration (two GTX980Ti cards in SLI):ġ) Titan X performance is near the performance of two GTX980Ti cards in SLI, let alone two GTX980 cards, which by the way can’t even achieve correct playable frame rates at 4K resolutions due more to the limitation of the VRAM (only 4GB each card).Ģ) Almost 50% of games today do not scale well with 2-way SLI. I also understand that not every review is perfect, so I may be a bit more forgiving with regards to any mistakes made – though I really didn’t see any and you approached this review with a ‘just the facts’ mentality. I can easily see there was a lot of work done here. Ryan, first off – THANK YOU! You and your staff did an outstanding job putting together this review. Our time was short with the new Titan X, as our team prepares for a three week whirlwind of events, but we wanted to get a quick review of this beast out the door ASAP. The NVIDIA Titan X (Pascal) Graphics Card That's higher than the $999 starting price of the Titan X based on Maxwell in March of 2015 - the claims that NVIDIA is artificially raising prices of cards in each segment will continue, it seems. ![]() Considering the prices of GeForce GTX 1080 cards with such limited availability, the $1200 price tag MIGHT NOT seem so insane. What will you be asked to pay for this performance? $1200, going on sale today, and only on, at least for now. If you are new to NVIDIA’s latest Pascal architecture, product features and what the move to 14nm nets them, you definitely should read our GeForce GTX 1080 review that covers all of that! Other than these changes, and corresponding improvements in texture units and ROP count, there really isn’t anything architecturally different in the Pascal-based Titan X over a GeForce GTX 1080. NVIDIA claims it has 480 GB/s of bandwidth on a 384-bit memory controller interface running at the same 10 Gbps as the GTX 1080. The new Titan X will feature 12GB of GDDR5X memory, not HBM as the GP100 chip has, so this is clearly a unique chip with a new memory interface. The complete GPU effectively loses 7% of its compute capability with the new Titan X, although that is likely to help increase available clock headroom and yield. Titan X (Pascal) does not utilize the full GP102 GPU the recently announced Pascal P6000 does, however, which gives it a CUDA core count of 3,840 (256 more than Titan X). The rated 11 TFLOPS of single precision compute of the new Titan X is 34% higher than that of the GeForce GTX 1080 and I would expect gaming performance to scale in line with that difference. GP102 features 40% more CUDA cores than the GP104 at slightly lower clock speeds. That’s nothing to sneeze at, of course, and you can see in the specifications below that we expect (and can now show you) Titan X (Pascal) is a gaming monster. GP102 does not integrate improved FP64 / double precision compute cores, so we are basically looking at an upgraded and improved GP104 Pascal chip. Using the largest consumer-facing Pascal GPU to date (with only the GP100 used in the Tesla P100 exceeding it), the new Titan X is going to be a very expensive, and very fast gaming card.Īs has been the case since the introduction of the Titan brand, NVIDIA claims that this card is for gamers that want the very best in graphics hardware as well as for developers and need an ultra-powerful GPGPU device. ![]() Though it shares a name, for some unexplained reason, with the Maxwell-based Titan X graphics card launched in March of 2015, this is card is a significant performance upgrade. ![]() How about a review?Īs a surprise to nearly everyone, on July 21 st NVIDIA announced the existence of the new Titan X graphics cards, which are based on the brand new GP102 Pascal GPU. Although some of RuPaul’s looks were criticized for not being up to par during Season 9, the show earned an Emmy nomination for hair and makeup. This meant that the show needed someone to do Ru’s hair and makeup, so in stepped Delta Work from Season 3 to take care of hair, and Season 2 runner-up Raven to be in charge of her makeup. After Ru’s interview came out, she went to Twitter and said “RuPaul is the Hitler, false prophet, anti-Christ of the LGBTQ community.” Many fans thought the comparison was not right, and the statement has probably put Carrera officially on the Drag Race no-fly list.Īt the beginning of filming for Season 9, RuPaul and his former makeup artist, Mathu Anderson, allegedly had a falling out and Mathu stormed off the set. Hopefully, this will lead to more representation in the future, but Carrera is not likely to be representing Drag Race anytime soon. Multiple transgender queens have since appeared on Drag Race since, and Victoria Scone was the first bio queen to compete, appearing on Season 3 of Drag Race UK. She also wasn’t too fond of the idea of any women competing on the show, including bio queens and drag kings. RuPaul stated in an interview in 2018 that she probably wouldn’t allow trans queens to participate on the show if they had already begun to medically transition. Carrera, as well as fans, have criticized Ru for a lack of trans representation on the show, particularly because transgender queens are so important to the LGBTQ+ community. She called out RuPaul for the use of the term “She-Mail” on Drag Race, which was changed, but the controversy affected Carrera's relationship with RuPaul. It does not store any personal data.Carmen Carrera came out as transgender after her appearance and Season 3 and became an advocate for transgender rights. If not, I let them be which is usually what they want. On the rare occasions when I’ve met famous people, of course I’m grateful and I generally say something to the effect of “It’s nice to meet you” and if the person wants to continue to talk or if I have something meaningful to say we will continue. Most people are just starstruck or trying to butter up the celebrity to get something. Why tell the person it’s an “honor” to meet them? You don’t know them to be able to judge what an honor it is (in most cases). It’s silly and a little embarrassing to gush over a celebrity anyway. Ru Paul probably considers such off camera interactions a waste of time and as brutal as that is it’s probably part of the reason he’s successful. That says to me that Ru Paul’s relationship to Pearl, the other contestants, possibly the judges and anyone else on the show have no value other than whether they can produce a compelling episode. “Nothing you say matters unless that camera is rolling”. Assuming the conversation went down the way Pearl said it did, Ru Paul’s response doesn’t surprise me. The other mode is Frisbee Golf, which is a TON of fun! You can play up to 4-players, and this can be done with only 1 Wiimote/MP. There are also more advanced times where balloons are added where you get extra points when popping the balloon and still making it in the target. ![]() ![]() You through the frisbee just like in real life and get as close to the target as you can. The first mode is Frisbee Dog, where, you guessed it, play fetch with a dog. You really see how much Motion Plus can change Wii games for the better. Expert is really challenging but also a lot of fun!įrisbee is what I would consider a ‘flagship’ sport for Wii Motion Plus. This sport only has the one mode, but there are 3 difficulty settings. You basically just lift the remote when you get to the top of the wake to jump and then balance the board before you land on the water again. You can cut out really wide to get better air but all of the tricks are done automatically. Basically you turn the remote side to side to cut across the wake and perform various tricks. It’s controlled using the wii remote turned sideways (as if you’re holding the rope handle coming from the boat). Wakeboarding is a pretty fun change of pace from some of the other sports. It’s probably my favorite mode out of all the sports and it’s a good indication of what we could see in a new Zelda for Wii (hopefully!). Your character will move for you, so all you’re concerned with is slicing and blocking your way through some 30 enemies. The last mode is called Showdown, because you’re in control of your Mii character as you traverse different areas on the island facing off with other opponents with swords. It’s pretty fun and can get very competitive. So you have to quickly see the correct direction to slice and then slice away before the other person. They’ll land in front of each of you with an arrow showing which direction to cut the object. The referee will throw objects to both you and your opponent (these could be watermelons, pencils, cupcakes, etc.). Basically the premise here is to chop objects in a certain direction, faster than your opponent. Speed Slice is the next mode and here you’ll actually get to wield sharper swords than in the duel since you’ll be chopping through a number of different items. While the controls are simplistic, there’s so much depth to the motionplus’ sensitivity that you’ll find yourself acting like you have a real sword in your hands! So if you want to block attacks from above, you’d hold B and hold the wiimote/sword horizontally. Controls for Dueling are pretty simple, you can either swing the Wiimote+MP to attack or you can hold the B button while rotating the Wiimote to block attacks. The game is simple, knock your opponent off of the platform within the time limit. Duel can be played with a computer player or with a friend. It’s split up into 3 different modes: Duel, Speed Slice, and Showdown. ![]() Swordplay is one of the more in depth sports in Wii Sports Resort, and as such, it’s one of the best sports in the game. Wii Sports Resort – Row 1 (Swordplay, Wakeboarding, Frisbee, Archery) And now Wii Sports Resort aims to do the same, but does it revolutionize Wii gaming like the first title? James and I summarize the best and worst sports in WSR below. The first Wii Sports ushered in a new generation of video games with the Nintendo Wii. There’s the sense, then, that this is not a product aimed at complete novices – and it should have either come with that caveat or be accompanied by instructions that take into account different levels of knowledge and experience, which it unfortunately falls down on. Though a red and black wire going into either positive or negative attachment is likely something that someone with even a tiny bit of electronics-based knowledge would have known without any assistance, for me and my lack of experience, that was immediately baffling. The instructions looked pretty clear though separated into a pretty small number of steps, it did make the process look fairly painless and straightforward.ĭuring the building of the machine, however, that simplicity in the instructions became a problem – the lack of clear indication of what size screw to use at any given point made the process needlessly confusing, as did the general lack of guidance as to which wire was to go into which part of each button. Putting together the wooden frame of the machine looked straightforward enough, but wiring up buttons and plugging them into a control unit, which itself then needed to be plugged into an extra console, as well as securing a monitor to a frame and getting audio out of it – well, that all seemed a bit much to me. ![]() So when the Sharpin unit arrived – one of their Ultra machines – my heart did sink a bit. ![]() An Android-based Emulation Console Too?.I’m pretty much a plug and play kind of person I lack the patience to do much beyond the most basic putting together of wires and boxes that usually accompanies attaching, say, a console to a TV. I have a Retroid Pocket 2 (which you can read more about in our Retroid Pocket 2 review) and just fiddling with certain settings to get emulators to work properly absolutely exhausts me. I must make a confession at this point – I’m really not much of a tinkerer. ![]() I wasn’t sure what to expect though I’d seen their units online – and they look superb – I really wasn’t sure how much tinkering and actual constructing I’d have to do. It felt like a true golden age, with machines such as The Addams Family, The Twilight Zone and Creature from the Black Lagoon all being released, along with countless other examples of brilliantly designed licensed titles making their way to arcades. My interest – and access to a wide variety of new tables – peaked in the early 90s, when some of the most highly regarded pinball machines of all time were released. When Sharpin offered the chance for me to review one of their digital pinball machines, I jumped at the chance – I’ve been a big fan of pinball since I was very young. ![]() The Winners will be notified within 7 days of the winner selection. ![]() Without ignoring mainstream German films that deal with migration and racism from both the East and the West, it examines primarily fictional and documentary films made by migrants and non-Germans that tackle Germany’s politics of racialization and its function within German racial capitalism: from short films made by Black students visiting German film schools Turkish productions set in Germany, such as Almanya Aci Vatan (1979) films made by Jewish immigrants like Jeanine Meerapfel or those by exiled filmmakers such as Sohrab Shahid Saless, Kidlat Tahimik and Želimir Žilnik. These attempts build upon the groundwork developed by Black German feminists in the 1980s and on the ‘postmigrant turn’ in migration studies – a call to not merely study the social phenomenon of migration but to use migration as a perspective to shed new light on Germany’s history and culture at large.īuilding on these debates, this project employs a ‘postmigrant frame of reading’ (Moslund/Petersen) to interrogate film archives from the 1970s and 1980s and their construction and critique of Germany’s politics of difference. At the same time, attempts to counter racialized norms of Germanness and German Leitkultur have become increasingly visible over recent decades. When German pundits took pains to discuss questions of race and structural racism in the summer of 2020 – provoked, tellingly, by protests after the murder of George Floyd in the USA more than by the racist and antisemitic terrorist attacks in Halle and Hanau only a few months before – two interconnected phenomena were frequently commented on: the willful ignorance and helpless illiteracy expressed by many white Germans when it comes to questions of racism and the difficulties and complexities involved when adopting theories of race from an American academic context to Germany. ![]() Till Kadritzke, Research Area 4: "Literary Currencies" |
